GCARD: Acting together to eradicate poverty
After three days of dialog, the participants in the Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (GCARD) held recently in Montpellier came up with a roadmap outlining the priorities of agricultural research for development agenda.
Almost 1000 researchers, policy-makers, farmers, donors and members of civil society from all over the world met in Montpellier from 28 to 31 March 2010 for the first Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development. Their aim was to meet the Millenium Development Goal of reducing hunger and poverty in the world.
The role of women in farming and in agricultural research, that of civil society, partnerships and capacity building within national and regional programmes were the main topics covered during the conference.
This conference was co-organised by GFAR at the international level and Agropolis International at the local level.
The Exhibition "Mundiamediterra - Acting together in the Mediterranean to take up the challenges of agricultural, food and environmental development" will be organized as part of GCARD. Put together by a large varity of actors coming from the North and the South of the Mediterranean Sea, it will illustrate the large varity of ARD efforts to face major development challenges in the Mediterranean.
